JinkoSolar joins hands with Far East Group to create a PV-storage integration project | Energy storage supporting PV is imperative
2023.02.10

Recently, JinkoSolar Co., Ltd., a highly innovative photovoltaic enterprise, has created a PV-storage integration project for New Far East Cable Co., Ltd. The project will utilise the factory rooftop of Far East Cable Group to build an 8.25 MWp rooftop distributed photovoltaic project, and plans to build a 1 MW / 3 MWh energy storage power station in Phase 1 near the 110 kV substation. After grid connection, the energy storage system will achieve peak-valley arbitrage on the user side, reducing electricity costs; improve power quality, while smoothing photovoltaic fluctuations at the factory site, increasing the self-consumption rate of the factory's PV power station, optimising the allocation of PV-storage resources, and maximising customer returns.

Based on the project conditions, the energy storage system has a capacity of 1 MW / 3 MWh. The solution is divided into two parts: the battery system and the converter system. The battery system includes batteries, thermal management system, power distribution and other components; the converter and step-up system includes the power conversion system (PCS), transformer and auxiliary equipment.

The battery system is integrated within the battery container, adopting a non-walk-in design with externally opened maintenance doors, improving the convenience and safety of O&M inspections. The container also integrates a DC combiner system, power distribution system and thermal management system, achieving high integration and maximising space utilisation. The battery management system (BMS) adopts a three-level architecture, comprising slave BMU, master BCMU and total BAMS, which comprehensively and in real time monitors parameters at cell, module and system levels, primarily including temperature, voltage, current, SOC, battery insulation status and other key parameters, ensuring safe, reliable and stable system operation. The thermal management system within the battery system adopts a multi-logic control strategy, making the battery system thermal management more efficient.

In the system's fire protection solution, to address thermal runaway issues during battery storage and operation, the system employs a fully automatic perfluorohexanone fire suppression system. The extinguishing method is total-flooding, ensuring that in the event of a fire, the fire-extinguishing gas can quickly fill the entire space, submerging the ignition point, improving the targeting, timeliness and reliability of the fire protection system.

In the project, the energy management system (EMS) can uniformly coordinate and control all equipment within the energy storage system, providing real-time dynamic monitoring of charge and discharge volumes and equipment operating status, while also responding to upper-level system commands in real time. It also includes functions such as data processing, system monitoring, operation and control, human-machine interface, historical data report analysis, database configuration management and user management.

In the future, as the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation and its share of electricity generation continue to increase, energy storage, as an important means of enhancing the flexibility and stability of the power system under high-penetration renewable energy integration, will inevitably develop in tandem with PV. Jinko ESS continues to expand its energy storage business, providing customers with safe, efficient and convenient integrated PV-storage projects. As a key technology supporting renewable energy development, energy storage is set to usher in the next “trillion-level” market opportunity, driving tremendous growth in the industry. Jinko ESS will continue to be driven by product strength and innovation, leading industry technology trends, striving forward towards high-quality green energy development, and contributing to the high-quality implementation of the “dual carbon” goals.
